Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) is the most common type of scoliosis, affecting patients physically and psychologically. Physically, AIS may impair patient cardiopulmonary function and can be complicated with a variety of diseases in severe cases. It may also affect the chest development of female patients, and even their fertility. Psychologically, AIS-caused physical deformities can induce psychological problems such as adolescent autism and depression. In recent years, the evaluation of the quality of life of patients with AIS has drawn increasing attention clinically. The scale to evaluate the quality of life of patients is an important part of the treatment and prognosis of AIS. This paper mainly introduces several health-related quality of life assessment scales commonly used in AIS patients, briefly summarizes their evaluation contents, reliability, validity and development, and discusses their clinical application.
