Objective：To investigate the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in atherosclerotic plaques.Methods: The rabbit atherosclerotic model was developed by high cholesterol feeding.The VEGF protein level in atherosclerotic plaques were studied by means of immunohistochemistry.Results:VEGF protein was not detected in normal rabbit aortic arteries,the increased production of VEGF protein were found in atherosclerotic plaques.Conclusion:VEGF protein have a high level expression in atherosclerotic plaques and may involve the pathogenesis and progression of atherosclerosis.
